Helping a Loved One

Helping a Loved One or Family Member Get Anxiety Treatment

Watching a family member or loved one who is suffering from the ongoing symptoms of anxiety fight through each day can be extremely devastating. You may feel at a loss as to what you can do to help your loved one when he or she no longer seems to have control over his or her own thoughts and behaviors. The best thing that you can do for him or her is to be a constant source of support, but even that can be difficult if you lack a true understanding of what anxiety is and how it can negatively impact the lives of those suffering from it. Here are some things to keep in mind as you help your loved one come to terms with the fact that treatment at a professional center or hospital or anxiety concerns is needed while remaining supportive throughout the process:

  • Take time to learn about anxiety disorders and the best treatment available at a hospital or center so that you can gain an understanding of what your loved one is going through
  • Refrain from saying things such as “calm down” or “just relax” or “don’t worry” because this will likely only increase his or her anxiety; remember that this is not something that he or she has control over
  • Ask questions; do not assume to know what your loved one needs
  • Avoid being judgmental
  • Do not offer to do things for your loved one because this can result in his or her beginning to feel dependent on you, which can ultimately prolong the anxiety instead of aiding in alleviating it

Why Consider Us?

Why Consider Anxiety Treatment at Seven Hills Hospital in Las Vegas

When people are struggling with anxiety disorders, it can affect their ability to concentrate, their ability to interact in social situations, their ability to perform appropriately in academic or occupational settings, and, in some extreme cases, even their ability to leave their house. Additionally, it can have a negative impact on a person’s physical health. Fortunately, anxiety disorders are very treatable with the help of professionals at a hospital or center for anxiety concerns. Yet, when left untreated, the symptoms are likely to continue to worsen over time, potentially causing the onset or the exacerbation of the symptoms of another mental health disorder.

An inpatient treatment center can be extremely beneficial for people who are struggling with anxiety disorders. First and foremost, entering inpatient care at an anxiety treatment center or hospital allows individuals to step away from the stresses of their everyday lives, which is a positive first step towards recovery for people who have anxiety. In doing so, they are removing themselves from some of the things that cause them anxiety and are provided with the opportunity to focus solely on gaining control of their symptoms and becoming well. Through the use of various therapeutic approaches, along with the support of and encouragement from mental health professionals, inpatient centers can help people overcome their anxiety and reach their goals for a brighter future with the help of a professional treatment center or hospital for their anxiety concerns.

Types of Treatment Available

Types of Anxiety treatment offered at Seven Hills Hospital

When looking for anxiety treatment, you or your loved one may have been searching broadly for “treatment centers near me?” In the Las Vegas area, there is one clear choice. Seven Hills Hospital provides free, confidential assessments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at our convenient location near Las Vegas, Nevada. After completing a thorough assessment, one of our psychiatrists will review the evaluation in order to ensure that we will be able to provide the most appropriate level of care for the individual seeking treatment for anxiety at our hospital. Once admitted into our center for anxiety concerns, we provide each patient with his or her own individualized plan of care which will be implemented in a safe, secure, and structured environment. We have a child and adolescent unit between the ages of 5-17, an adult mental health unit, an adult substance abuse treatment unit, an adult rehabilitation unit, and a geriatric unit, all tailored to meet the specific needs of each population while receiving anxiety treatment at our hospital. We utilize a number of different therapeutic techniques on each of our units including the following:

Detoxification: When adult patients come to us and are struggling with a dependency to alcohol or drugs in addition to their anxiety disorder, they will first go through the detoxification process in order to remove all toxic substances from their bodies before fully engaging in the therapeutic process. All patients in our detox center are provided with 24 hour monitoring by nurses and doctors.

Medication management: Every patient who comes to us for treatment is seen within 24 hours by an internal medicine doctor in order to obtain a thorough medical history and to assess for any possible health complications. Additionally, all patients meet with a psychiatrist daily in order to monitor the therapeutic effectiveness of any medications that may have been prescribed and to make any changes that may be necessary.

Individual therapy: Individual counseling sessions are designed to provide patients with time to meet one-on-one with a therapist in order to work on things such as learning to regulate emotions, tolerating distress, and any other issues that they may be struggling with. Individual sessions are held on an as-needed basis.

Family therapy: Family counseling sessions are held on an as-needed basis, except for patients in our adolescent unit who are provided with family sessions once each week. Family sessions can be helpful in engaging the entire family in their loved one’s treatment process and showing them how they can best support their loved one during this time.

Group therapy: Group therapy is the main treatment method used here at Seven Hills Hospital. All patients participate in two to three groups daily. Topics of discussion may include coping skills, stress management, anger management, effectively expressing emotions, communication skills, and life skills. For patients who are struggling with chemical dependency, there are also groups aimed at providing education surrounding addictive behaviors and triggers.

Experiential therapy: In addition to the more traditional treatment modalities, we also offer a number of other programs designed to help our patients heal. These additional programs may include:

  • Recreational therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Creative arts
  • Meetings with a dietician
  • Physical fitness opportunities
  • Medication education
  • A.A. meetings
